Remodel of the Week: Aptitude Design & Build

Aptitude Design & Build

Aptitude Design & Build took on a never-renovated 1985 house in St. Charles, Miss. The project’s priorities were functionality, low maintenance and long-term livability. The project scope included two phases of renovations. The first in the kitchen, half bath and throughout the lower level.

Matt Mierek grew Aptitude Design & Build from a side construction jobs with constant demand for his expertise. He began to take the business as his full time venture with the ethos of, “What would I do if this were my house?” The company quickly scaled but Mierek remained loyal to his values of craftsmanship and integrity.

During the kitchen remodel, Aptitude Design & Build opened up the previous awkward layout by removing the walls. This significant shift let in more natural light and served the owner’s lifestyle. They also removed an enclosed pantry and replaced it with a functional wet and coffee bar. These changes provided the clients more storage and a functional layout for their needs.

I never want to lose sight of the reason I started this business,” said founder Matt Mierek. “Integrity and those core values…that’s why people come back and work with us again and again. That’s why our work is still 80% referrals-based—it speaks to the way we’ve continued to build relationships and do quality work. And that’s important, no matter what size our company is.”
